How Fragrances Can Make or Break Your Love Life
For many women, finding a signature fragrance is high on their priority list, for others, a little experimentation with fragrance now and then can be fun; others still refuse to wear any perfume at all. Fragrance can be a great thing or it can be a bad thing, it really all depends on how you choose to use it. While it may seem very simple, fragrances and perfumes are actually very complex creations. They are mixtures of aroma compounds, solvents, fixative, and essential oils that react with the heat in your skin to give you a pleasant smell. The oldest evidence of perfume dates back over 4,000 years. If it has continued on this long, there must be something to it, right? Scent is a very important sense in humans, and it is widely believed that humans even smell and perceive on a chemical level. If you have ever dated someone that you just didn’t have that ‘spark’ for, it could be because you subconsciously did not like their chemical makeup or ‘smell’, even if it is not your actual nose that is doing the smelling.
Basically, when you are inhaling fragrance, your brain processes it in different layers. The first layer, or top notes are the ones that you notice immediately when you apply the perfume. They are also referred to as head notes and are the molecules that allow a person to form their initial impression of the perfume. The second layer, known appropriately as the middle notes are the scent molecules that are perceived just before the first later evaporates completely. These notes form the main body, or heart of the perfume. If you have ever tested a perfume that you hated at first, only to have it grow on you after a few minutes, you were experiencing the middle notes. The third layer of scent that is perceived is known as the base notes. They are not typically perceived until about 30 minutes after initial application, and they bring solidity and depth to the top and middle notes. While they may be perceived at different times, they all form together to form the main fragrance.
If you are searching for the perfect fragrance, always keep in mind that your body is made up of chemicals, and each perfume may work differently with your personal chemicals. For this reason, one brand of perfume may smell great straight from the bottle, it may smell great on you and make you a magnet for the opposite sex, but on your best friend, it just doesn’t seem to smell good and she can’t seem to get a date! Always test fragrances, and give it a few hours to wear down through its individual notes before you think about spending money on it. Even though you might find a great online sale for that fragrance you have been dying to try, you could end up wasting your money if it doesn’t end up mixing well with your personal chemicals. However, when you find the perfect fragrance that compliments you, odds are men will not be able to stay away from you!
